Alison Newey, MA, ATR-P, LPC registered associate (She, her, hers)
Experience, Philosophy and Approach: I have been a helping professional in various forms for 10+ years. My background and experience as an EMT gives me a unique strength for working with people in crisis, as well as having a unique understanding of human physiology and systems related to trauma. I am passionate about exploring creative approaches to healing, while honoring each individual's unique journey and culture. I value honesty, kindness and respect personal autonomy. I am a queer integrative client-centered art therapist anchored in mindfulness-based theory often coupled with CBT, DBT and other somatic therapies. I also have experience and training in play therapy.
Age groups and Specialty: I primarily work with children and adolescents, ages 4-17, helping to learn safe ways to cope with stress and traumatic experiences. My specialty areas are PTSD, depression, anxiety and other neurological conditions.
Formal Education and Training: I hold a BA in Art with minors in psychology and spanish from Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon. I studied abroad in Costa Rica in 2000, expanding my understanding of culture and diversity. In 2003, I became a state and nationally licensed EMT, completing the training at Portland Community College in Portland, Oregon. I completed a Master's Degree in Art Therapy at Lewis and Clark Graduate School of Education and Counseling in May of 2022. My degree emphasizes social justice, equity, and access throughout every aspect of art therapy.
Fun Facts about me: My partner and I live in the Portland area with our two cats. We love spending time with our family, friends, and our 16 nieces and nephews! Summer time is usually filled with camping trips, kayaking or tubing, gardening and home improvements. I love hanging out in my home art studio painting and creating miniature pottery
