Marjukka Barron, MA, LAT, LPC (She, her, hers)
I specialize in art therapy and the integration of creative processes with psychotherapeutic counseling practices to deepen therapeutic work. As a counselor I have worked with people of all ages and physical abilities, children, teens, adults and older adults, to provide counseling for a wide range of cognitive and emotional needs including depression, anxiety, PTSD, memory loss and grief. I work to offer a safe, compassionate space and value the unique experiences, cultures and perspectives of every individual. I am passionate about supporting and empowering people, and about incorporating creative approaches and art-making to counseling practices to foster emotional healing. I have spent the last years working in mental health services for refugee and immigrant populations, and with people experiencing neurocognitive impairment and grief. I offer individual counseling for children and adults, and group art therapy and facilitation of multicultural community support groups. I moved to Portland from Finland 20 years ago, and am the mother of four grown children. I have a masters degree in Art education from Finland, but found that my passion lies in the therapeutic profession, and I gained a second MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Lewis and Clark College. In my free time, I love being in nature, crafting and tending to my small garden.
