  • Lyubov Gonina, MA, LPC, LCAT, NCC, Art Therapist, Supervisor, Consultant

    (She/Her)

Lyubov has worked with refugees and immigrants since 2011, specializing in the design and implementation of culturally specific treatments. Originally from Kyiv, Ukraine, she came to the U.S. as a refugee with a degree in Graphic Arts. Lyubov continued her education at Portland State University, graduating Cum Laude with a Bachelor in Psychology & Art, and later earned her MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Marylhurst University in Oregon.

Drawing from her education, personal journey, and extensive professional experience, Lyubov has a profound understanding of the emotional health challenges faced by refugees and immigrants. She tailors her therapeutic approach to each individual's cultural background, using an integrative method influenced by cognitive-behavioral theories, trauma-informed art therapy, and positive psychology. Central to her practice is the belief in flourishing, where individuals can not only overcome adversity but also thrive, by connecting with their culture to unlock their best potential.

Lyubov is passionate about fostering cultural understanding and promoting ethnic arts within the broader community. In addition to counseling and teaching, she organizes community events, provides culturally specific supervision and consultation, and facilitates multicultural exchanges, raising awareness of the rich cultural contributions of newly arrived immigrants and refugees.

  • Rebecca Hampton, MA, LPC, Clinician

    (She/Her)

I believe that all individuals are unique and capable of making changes to find peace within. Through flexibility, curiosity, empathy, and an understanding of one’s story as well as the story of their system, we can create healing and reconciliation. My goal is to join people on their journey as they take the lead. I follow an integrative approach and specialize in CBT, DBT, EMDR, IFS, strength based approaches, college counseling, and somatic work. Some of my experiences include: trauma work, anxiety, grief/loss, adjustment issues, and depression with adults as well as group work with adolescents.

I hold a master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University with a bachelor's degree in Cultural Anthropology from San Diego State University. I have several years of experience in trauma-informed and culturally specific counseling. I enjoy exploring, creating, cooking, spending time with my partner, two children, and my dachshund named Chimi.

  • Nazar Ibnouf, MA, LPC Associate, Clinician

    (He/Him)

Hi! I'm Nazar, and I'm excited to meet you! I would like to give you a brief background about me. I'm a Clinical Mental Health Counselor. I hold a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (MA) from George Fox University and a Bachelor’s in law from Cairo University in Khartoum. English is my second language. I learned it when I moved to the US while working two jobs to support myself and some of my family in Sudan and pay for my education at the same time. Arabic is my mother language. I grew up and studied all the way to my first master’s in law in Egypt; you may notice my beautiful accent. Helping people is patience that led me to my fourth career as a Counselor.  I believe that everyone has the capacity for growth and learning. My approach to counseling is to work together to reach your unique and individual personal potential by providing the tools and skills to help you cope effectively with difficult situations, painful emotions, or memories. I offer a compassionate, encouraging, safe, and empowering space for you to learn and grow.

In my former life, I have been a lawyer and an advocate for the underserved in Sudan and Egypt. On the other hand, I have done it all in the US.  I worked in the service, managing, and marketing industry. I am an immigrant from Sudan. I'm a minority, a father who likes to help others. I like to play Football or "Soccer" with my kids and explore the outdoors and nature. I came from a culture that considers mental health taboo. Living in the US for over twenty years and being involved with counseling, I’ve learned the importance of dealing with feelings, thoughts, behaviors, family dynamics, and mental health. Through counseling, the therapist and client work together to explore the client’s inner world. The goal is increased self-awareness and problem-solving to remove obstacles to facilitate positive change in the client’s life.

I look forward to meeting you and walking with you on your journey.

  • Hala Samaan MA, ATR-P Art Therapist

    (She/Her/Hers)

I practice therapy because I believe in its profound ability to foster healing and transformation. Having faced my own challenges, I understand the courage it takes to step into therapy. This work is deeply meaningful to me, and I feel honored to walk alongside clients on their unique journeys, offering support and compassion every step of the way.

At iPhilosophy Therapy, I draw from person-centered, existential-humanistic, and relational depth approaches to create a compassionate, non-judgmental space where clients feel seen and understood. Through art therapy, I help clients explore emotions and experiences in ways that words alone cannot, focusing on the healing process rather than the outcome. I prioritize building trust and safety so that we can navigate challenges together with openness and curiosity. Whether you’re addressing past trauma, navigating life transitions, or seeking deeper self-connection, my goal is to empower you to uncover insights, shift limiting beliefs, and create meaningful change.

I work with adults aged 18 years and older, and I speak English and Arabic fluently. I am a provisional art therapist (ATR-P) working toward dual licensure.

When I’m not working, I enjoy playing the ukulele, crocheting, spending time with my cat Kahlua, playing video games, and exploring new places in Portland.

  • Alison Newey, MA, LAT, ART, Clinician

    (She/Her/Hers)

I am passionate about exploring creative approaches to healing, while honoring each individual's unique journey and culture. I am a queer integrative client-centered art therapist, trained in play therapy and anchored in mindfulness-based and neurobiologically-informed theory. I primarily work with children and adolescents, however open to working with any age groups. I specialize in creating a safe and accepting space for the LGBTQ+ community. Some areas I have experience include PTSD, depression, anxiety and other neurological conditions.

My partner and I live in the Portland area with our two cats and a niece. We love spending time with our family, friends, and our 16 nieces and nephews! Summer time is usually filled with camping trips and kayaking, gardening and other do-it-yourself home projects. I also love hanging out in my home art studio painting and creating miniature pottery.

  • Marjukka Barron MA, LAT, Registered Associate, Clinician

    (She, Her, Hers)

I specialize in art therapy and the integration of creative processes with psychotherapeutic counseling practices to deepen therapeutic work. As a counselor I have worked with people of all ages and physical abilities, children, teens, adults and older adults, to provide counseling for a wide range of cognitive and emotional needs including depression, anxiety, PTSD, memory loss and grief. I work to offer a safe, compassionate space and value the unique experiences, cultures and perspectives of every individual. I am passionate about supporting and empowering people, and about incorporating creative approaches and art-making to counseling practices to foster emotional healing.

I have spent the last years working in mental health services for refugee and immigrant populations, and with people experiencing neurocognitive impairment and grief. I offer individual counseling for children and adults, and group art therapy and facilitation of multicultural community support groups.

I moved to Portland from Finland 20 years ago, and am the mother of four grown children. I have a masters degree in Art education from Finland, but found that my passion lies in the therapeutic profession, and I gained a second MA in Art Therapy Counseling from Lewis and Clark College. In my free time, I love being in nature, crafting and tending to my small garden.
